“Kortadura” alludes to an unresolved lesson from the past. It shows what it is to engage in an eventual wicked problem by emphasizing the historical significance rooted in the current challenges in the lives of Filipinos. It reflects the trauma inflicted by the invaders, the remorseless erasure of our culture, and the glimmer of hope that will emanate from Filipinos today that will revive our identity.
Pagpapalawig: “Kortadura”, hango sa salitang Espanyol na ibig sabihin ay mga pinutol. Isa ring simbolikong representasyon sa kasaysayang tinutugaygay ang naudlot na purong makabansang pag-unlad; Ang naputol na ekspedisyon ni Magallanes sunod sa direksyon ng araw tungo sa ating isla. Sabay sa paglubog ng araw ang ‘di natin namalayang paglubog din ng kulturang ipinamalas ng ating katutubo. Naputol na pananaw at napalitan ng bago, ang Kristiyanismo. Sa kabila nito, naputol din ang kanilang pantaong karapatang nagbunga ng karahasan at kawalang galang; ang panggagahasa at kahihiyan ng ating mga pinuno ng kababaihan at tribo; at ang tuluyang pagputol sa kulturang meron tayo. Kumawala man sa mga kamay ng dayuhan, ay hindi naman naputol ang traumang kanilang iniwan. Siyang nagdulot ng pagkamuhi natin sa sarili bilang Pilipino. Nagkaroon ng iba’t ibang ideyal sa pamumuhay, hango sa kanluranin. Tayo ang bunga ng puno na may mahabang ugat na nagdurusa at tayo rin ang papalit sa naputol na pagkakakilanlan ng ating sinilangan. |
I am a self-taught visual artist, born and raised in Silang, Cavite. I took up Arts and Design strand in Senior High School at Tagaytay City Science National High School in 2016. I started my freshman year at Adventist University of the Philippines with a Visual Communication major in 2018, and recently transferred to the University of the Philippines – Diliman. I began exploring my intentions of being an artist in Senior High School, joining in several art competitions and group exhibitions, and won a Silver Medal award in DepEd’s Painting Contest year 2016. Honorable mention at Eshi Shack Art Cafe’s First Painting Competition at Las Pinas. Runner-up in Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency’s Volunteerism Art Contest year 2017. My artwork was also featured in The Artidope’s 2nd Anniversary on PARC Foundation at San Juan, Metro Manila. Exhibited my piece at De La Salle University – Dasmarinas, an event for the Junior High School’s art fair followed by an exhibition at the same school for the Celebration of Indigenous Peoples Month. I also joined 2018’s Art For Everyone Exhibition at SM Bacoor under The Artidope’s group. Last exhibited at Tagaytay Contemporary for Likha Art fair’s Anniversary, Dambalasek Pis year 2020
