Some messages need no elaborate, detailed visual imagery to get their point across, and that is what I had in mind when creating this piece. It is disturbing to see a nation celebrate the anniversary of its colonization, the cause of death of many of its rich indigenous cultures, and laud it as a “blessing from the Lord”. A certain saying goes that the Spaniards who came to the Philippines brought “the cross and the sword”— but the truth is that they are one and the same.
Mika is a Painting major who strongly believes that painting is an art form that can go beyond the traditional brush and canvas. As an artist undergoing fine art training, they utilize what they have learned from the traditions of visual art and apply it to modern media, particularly digital art
