“Slow Picking”

Plaster
2021

This diptych tile depicts the Philippines back to when the Spaniards colonized our nation. The two parallel states of the Filipjnos are bridged by the hand of those who “guides” us to a better yet alternate future. The picking and transforming of the culture begins slowly, yet it is, in every way, inevitable.

Portraits and detailed backgrounds are subjects of Katharine Villano’s work. As watercolor is her medium of choice, she creates pieces that disolay a spectrum of colors, often with a surrealistic touch. For 7 years, this artist has taught basic portraiture both in her mentor’s workshop in Davao City, and voluntarily for a deaf community in Quezon City. The artist lives and works in the Philippines.
